Primary School Curriculum

The St. Philomena’s experience helps children grow into independent and confident individuals.  We offer a broad education that will prepare the children for their future challenges and enable them to reach their full potential.  We follow the national primary school curriculum while offering many additional subjects including music, elocution, french, library time, school choir and swimming.  We also stage two school shows every year.  All pupils are encouraged to participate in the school shows with the aim of building a wide range of skills such as self-confidence and team work. Sport is a very important part of school life. Pupils participate in P.E classes and play soccer and basketball. Special emphasis is given to swimming and swimming lessons take place for all pupils from first class upwards.

Tuition, Assessment and Reporting

We are very proud of our dynamic, diverse and highly experienced faculty of teachers.  Together they form a cohesive team with one clear objective; to provide all students with the very best tuition in accordance with our high academic standards.  Each class has an individual class teacher and benefits from expert subject tuition for subjects such as Irish, Computers and French.

Monthly assessments allow us to closely monitor each child’s progress.  Children aged 6 to 12 also complete the standardised national academic tests, Micra T and Sigma T on an annual basis.

We strongly believe in the benefit of our parent-teacher dialogue and our teachers are available to discuss your child’s progress at any time.  Formal parent-teacher meetings are held annually and written reports are issued each term.
